The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) will run off their National Junior Championships over the next two days at the National Track and Field Centre (NTFC), Edinburgh, West Coast Demerara.
The nation’s most promising young athletes from clubs such as the Police Progressive Youths, GDF, Running Braves and other clubs will test their skills across the sprints, middle distance and long distance events.
Additionally the field events will also be keenly contested in the jumping pits, javelin, discus and shot put throws.
Guyana’s leading young female sprinter Tianna Springer will also be in action, looking to dismiss all comers in the Girls 400m. Stabroek Sport reached out to AAG’s Vice President Niall Stanton who revealed that all systems are in place for a smooth hosting of the Championships.
“We are ready and raring to go, the Championships will start at 10AM and spectators will be asked to make a contribution of $1000 at the gate to see our Junior athletes put on a show”, Stanton revealed.
“It is supposed to be a very good National Juniors as we have all the major clubs participating with our top Junior athletes in action”.
Additionally, Stanton noted that the Championships will serve as “a welcome warmup for the likes of Springer, Malachi Austin, Athaleyah Hinckson and Ezekiel Newton who are scheduled to be going to World Juniors next month”.
Stanton is encouraging parents and fans to show up in their numbers to support the future stars of Athletics.
Tianna Springer, arguably Guyana’s leading Junior female athlete will be in action from today at the AAG’s National Junior Championships.
