Defending champion Beacons thumped Eastveldt 3-0 to climb atop the standings when the Georgetown Football Association Senior Men’s League continued on Friday evening at the National Training Centre, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Japheth George led the rout with a first half brace in the 12th and 25th minute. He was supported by Antwoine Vincent who recorded a second half conversion in the 54th minute.
Meanwhile, Pele overcame a one goal deficit to defeat the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) 3-1. Falling Behind to a Sherwin Evans strike in the 22nd minute, Pele equalised in the form of Denzel Junior four minutes onward.
Michael Hunter then pushed Pele into the lead as the scored in the 55th minute. The come from behind win was then sealed in the 80th minute via an Orland Lovell conversion.
The winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000, respectively, and the corresponding accolade.
