Victory Valley Royals won the Nigel Hinds/Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) Men’s Championship, defeating Amelia’s Ward Jets 76-63 on Saturday evening.

Staged at the Amelia’s Ward Hard-court, Yannick Tappin and Harold Adams led the way for the visitors with 17 points apiece, while Orlan Glasgow and Keifer Tappin supported with 11 points each.

For the hosts, Quincy Easton recorded 15 points, while Dennis Niles and Shannon Cadogan contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Royals dictated the initial exchanges of the contest, as they led 16-7 at the end of the first stanza. Royals then increased their advantage in the second period, scoring 32 points while restricting the home side to 22 to enter the halftime break in control at 48-29.

However, Jets responded in the pivotal third period, recording 30 points to Royals 14 to reduce the deficit to 59-62 entering the final quarter. Nevertheless, Royals prevailed in the fourth quarter as they outshot their foe 14-4.

Due to the outcome, Royals walked away with $400,000 and the championship trophy, while Jets pocketed $200,000.

Meanwhile, Block 22 Flames defeated the Retrieve Raiders 58-57 in overtime in the third-place playoff. Jonathan Clarke and Cleon Johnson tallied 18 and 13 points, respectively, in the win, with Shawn Cameron the next best scorer with seven points.

On the other end, Shemar Savoury recorded a game-high 19 points, while Neil Marks Jr. and Derron Montrose added 10 and eight points each.

Due to the outcome, Block 22 Flames walked away with $100,000, while Raiders copped $50,000.
