AAG National Junior Championships
Police Progressive Youth Club (PPYC) won the overall championship title when the Athletics Association of Guyana’s (AAG) Junior National Championships concluded on Sunday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.
Upper Demerara Schools (UD) placed second and Team Nice Athletics (TNA) took third place.
Robert Marcus of Police turned in a splendid performance to win the boys U20 long jump, taking gold with a jump of 7.09 metres – his third and final attempt – ahead of Javes Glasgow of Hopetown Flyers (HF) who leapt 6.65m and Zakiah Jacobs of Police with 6.62m.
The Discus boys U18 title went to Nathaniel Samaroo of Police with a throw of 32.92m; Daniel Ashby of Bladen Hall (BH) placed second and Jordon Dos Santos of President’s College (PC) was third with 31.69 and 28.49 meters respectively.
Malika Marques of BH won the 800m girls U20 in a time of 2 minutes 39.74 seconds, while Delicia Wilkie of TNA placed second in 2:40.00 and Amelia Dover of Hope Town Flames (HF) was third in 3:07.87. Tyrese Harper of BH took the top podium spot in the 800m boys U18 event in a time of 2:22.23 ahead of Kaveon Bascome of Police in 2:23.36 and David Mardenborough of PC in 2:24.63.
The 200m boys U18 gold was grabbed by Skylar Charles of Running Brave Athletic Club (RBAC) in a time of 22.31 seconds; Walton Alleyne of New Amsterdam United (NAU) took the runner-up spot in 22.77s and Dequan Farrell of Upper Demerara (UD) was third in 22.86s.
Nalicia Glen of BH produced a clinical performance to win the 200m girls U20 in 25.84 seconds, while Delicia Wilkie of TNA took silver in 28.19 and Aaleya Barnwell of Police claimed bronze in 30.02. Walton Alleyne of NAU grabbed gold in the long jump boys’ U18 with a leap of 6.66m, while Deuel Europe of RBAC clinched the runner-up spot with 6.57m and Dequan Farrell of Upper Demerara placed third at 6.00m.
The long jump girls U20 top podium spot went to Armist Hector of Police with a leap of 5.25m; Tiffany Springer of Police placed second with 4.90m and Kyla Bamfield also of Police was third after jumping 4.35m.
Latifah James of Upper Demerara took gold in the discus girls’ U18 with a throw of 23.69m; Trianna Edwards of Christianburg Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) took silver and Carleia Steward of Police claimed bronze with 22.72m and 20.65m respectively.
Alikla Blucher of CWSS won the 800m girls U18 title in a time of 2:27.99 while Esther Mc Kinnon of RBAC came in second in 2:28.65 and Donnel Fraser of UD was third in 2:31.28. The 800m boys U18 was taken by Kaidon Persaud of UD in a time of 2:01.10; Anthony Cort of HF was second in 2:05.72 and Zachery Edwards of HF finished third in 2:12.03.
Emmanuel Adams of President’s College leaped 1.75m to win the high jump boys U18 and U20 titles ahead of Courtney Haynes of Police with 1.70m and Oran Cort of Police also with 1.70m.
Esther Mc Kinnon of RBAC clocked 11 minutes 42.26 seconds to take gold in the 3000m girls U18 event , while Donnel Fraser of UD placed second in 11:55.08 and Kaymayra Lacon of TNA finished third in 11:59.76.
Ebo Mc Neil of UD won the 3000m boys U18 event in a time of 10:02.21; David Bovell of HF was second in 10:02.71 and Shaquan Shephard of Police placed third in 10:44.93. The long jump girls’ U18 gold was taken by Kenatha Fraser of UD who leaped 5.30m; Adassa Albert of UD took silver with 4.89m and Tamara Harvey of Police was third after jumping 4.75m.
Jermain Francis of Police won the discus boys’ U20 after producing a best throw of 35.25m; Jamie Fraser of HF was second with a throw of 33.87m and Kemar Leitch of Police was third after throwing 26.88m.
Jomal Sullivan of UNA won the 800m boys U20 in a time of 2:01.91; Carlon Sampson of HF was second in 2:02.27 and Samuel Booker of Police was third in 2:05.16. The 4x400m mixed relay U18 gold was taken by Police in a time of 1:22.27; UD came in second in 3:51.89 and Running Brave placed third in 3:54.14.
The 4x100m U18 mixed relay title went to Running Brave in a time of 46.99s; Police grabbed the runner- up spot in 47.74s and NA United placed third in 49.18s.
