-after several years on the run
Jason Isaacs who was wanted in connection with the murder of an overseas-based Guyanese businessman back in 2021 at Reli-ance, East Canje Berbice, was held yesterday.
According to the Guy-ana Police Force, Isaacs was arrested around 7.45 am at the Weldaad Police Station.
In a statement, the police force said that it had issued a wanted bulletin for Isaacs over the 2021 murder of US-based Guyanese, Hemraj Pardesi in Berbice. It said that Isaacs is also suspected in Suriname of killing a man on the corner of Waaldijk and Eugene Gesselstraat on the evening of Thursday, October 12, 2023. Isaacs was arrested in Suriname on October 13, 2023, but escaped from the Paramaribo University Hospital and had been on the run since until his arrest yesterday morning by ranks of the force.
Isaacs had been shot in the leg by police during an operation to arrest him in Suriname on October 13th and had escaped from the Paramaribo University Hospital.
According to a Suriname news website waterkant.com, Isaacs managed to cut open the plaster cast on his leg and fled from the hospital.
Pardesi, also known as ‘Prem’, a 67-year-old man was found lying face down in his yard, at Reliance Settlement, East Canje, Berbice, with blood oozing from his nose during the wee hours of August 4th 2021.
Money he had withdrawn from a bank the day before was carted off by the killers.
In February this year, a Cumberland, East Canje Berbice fisherman who had pleaded guilty to the 2021 murder of Pardesi was sentenced to life in prison at the High Court in Berbice.
In January this year, Mario Bissoondial appeared at the High Court in Berbice before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow where he had entered his guilty plea.
