– Guyana ends singles segment with nine medals

Nicholas Verwey and Avery Arjoon clinched gold medals in the Boy’s U-19 and Girl’s U-15 divisions, respectively, as Guyana secured nine medals at the conclusion of the singles segment yesterday in the Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championship in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

Verwey brushed aside Barbadian Alex Stewart 11-6, 11-9, and 11-2 in the Boy’s U-19 final. In similar fashion, Arjoon clinched gold after defeating teammate Kaylee Lowe 11-5, 11-2, and 11-1.

Meanwhile, Ethan Bulkan won silver in the Boy’s U-13 division after losing to Jakob Noblett.

Also, Safirah Sumner clinched the bronze medal in the Girl’s U-17 section after defeating Sarrayah Yearwood of Barbados 13-11, 11-7, and 11-6 in the third-place playoff, while Emily Fung-A-Fat secured a bronze medal finish in the Girl’s U-15 section, defeating Josie Thong of Trinidad and Tobago 9-11, 11-6, 11-6, and 11-8.

Similarly, Egan Bulkan copped a bronze medal in the Boy’s U-13 section, downing Barbadian Ethan Cyrus 11-7, 11-5, and 11-3, while Michael Alphonso captured a bronze in the Boy’s U-19 division, brushing aside Seth Thong of Trinidad and Tobago 11-3, 11-9, and 11-8.

On the other hand, Tehani Munroe secured a bronze medal in the Girl’s U-11 division, defeating Jamaican Varenya Singh 11-6, 11-6, 12-10.
