The Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport (MCY&S), in collaboration with the National Sports Commission, will stage the inaugural edition of the ‘Learn to Swim Programme’ in Essequibo on Saturday.
This was disclosed in an official release from the organising committee. According to the correspondence, the programme, which will witness an official opening ceremony on Saturday at 2:00pm, will be staged at the Imam Bacchus Swimming Pool in Affiance.
Minister of MCY&S Charles Ramson Jr. and Director of Sports Steve Ninvalle are among the officials that will be attending the opening ceremony.
The initiative, which will be coordinated by NSC’s head swimming coach, Paul Mahaica, has already attracted in excess of 350 registered participants from various environs, including the Pomeroon area.
Training sessions will be conducted from 2:00pm-3:00pm and 3:00pm-4:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays, respectively, for children, with adult sessions occurring on Sundays from 3:00pm-4:00pm. The dates for the entirety of the programme are July 7th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 26th, 27th, and 28th.

Meanwhile, Director of Sport Ninvalle affirmed that this is a momentous occasion that aligns with the government’s ‘One Guyana’ initiative.
Also, coach Mahaica stated that all systems are in place for the successful and incident-free staging of the programme, which will be administered by an experienced team of officials.
