Eleven-year-old Jonelle Kertzious of DeVeldt Primary School left her parents and teachers in awe yesterday as she secured a spot at Queen’s College and topped her primary school.
This is a historic development for DeVeldt Primary as it had never before secured a place at QC.
Kertzious, who attended the Upper Berbice River school copped 495 marks and in an interview with Stabroek News said that she was “pleasantly surprised and super elated being awarded a place at the Queen’s College.”
In preparation for the National Grade Six Assessment, she ensured that she studied “long and hard and always ensured I set my priorities.”
“My aspiration is to become either a medical doctor or a veterinary surgeon. There are lots of persons who were instrumental in making my journey a success; firstly, thanks to Almighty God for health, strength and wisdom. Next, special thanks to my parents, Joel Kertzious and Miss Cherry Kertzious (teacher of DeVeldt Primary School) who supported, encouraged and steered me in the right path.”
She also thanked her class teacher, Miss Latricia Lepps for her guidance and dedicated service “along with all the other teachers of DeVeldt Primary School who all contributed to my success.”
