Vincent Alexander, returning officer for the recent PNCR Congress says results of voting for 15 members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the party will be released today.
The Congress concluded on June 30 and questions have been asked about what is taking so long with the counting for the CEC.
In a statement yesterday, Alexander noted that there had been some public anxiety about the apparent delay of the announcement of the results and this has overshadowed the fact that the results for the executive officers were promptly released on the evening of the day of the elections, and that the PNCR 2024 Internal Elections, Procedures and Instructions provided for the announcement of Results “not later than 24hrs after the Count.”
The statement said that the count for the central executive committee members required the examination of approximately thirteen hundred ballots, each bearing fifty-nine candidates, in order to determine which fifteen of those fifty-nine candidates obtained the highest number of votes.
The exercise, while time consuming has also been influenced by the CARICOM Day holiday and the availability of the unaffiliated ballot attendants, only in the evenings. That notwithstanding, the count was to be completed yesterday and results announced today.
“VA & Associates is proud to have been chosen to conduct the PNCR internal elections for the second consecutive occasion, and even more proud of it transparent and open conduct of the elections, in a country where elections are associated with notoriety”, the statement said.
