Over the weekend, the Orthopaedics Department at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) embarked on a marathon of joint replacement surgeries to help reduce the backlog in the system.
A release from the GPHC said that the team of surgeons, nurses, anaesthesia professionals, and operating room technicians came together to offer their time and expertise, performing a series of successful joint replacements for patients.
“We are proud to share that, for the first half of this year alone, we have successfully completed 63 joint replacement cases—a significant improvement from last year. Last year, our local team performed 71 joint replacements, in addition to the outstanding work done by the Women’s Orthopaedic Global Outreach (WOGO), who conducted 62 joint replacement surgeries as part of a medical mission”, the release said.
