As a little boy, I spent many summer months at No 41 village WCB and walked to my great aunt at Rising Sun (Mary D’Aguiar) property now Rising Sun Horse Racing grounds. The pleasure was she always had a few gallons of fresh cows’ milk boiled that day which made the walk worthwhile. Time has passed, she has passed, but horse racing continues.
Somethings about horse racing and politics are similar, hope never gets you over the finish line, performance does! However, a good trainer should know if his horse is competitive enough to enter the race, not just to run but to win. Then the odds are calculated – the odds of winning against the competing horses. There is a difference between emotions, hope and reality. The PNCR, AFC, and others must figure that out, no hope, get the best horse that can win, be selfless.
I was part of the 2020 recount and do not need the SOPs to know who won the last elections. The horse is already in the stable. Man o’ war and Secretariat are still considered the greatest racehorses of all time, they always wanted to win. In Guyana’s politics, the PNCR/AFC must put their best horse into the race, not the one you like but the one that can win. I will not bet this time until I see the horse that will run.
The PPP/C horse has strong odds of winning the next race 2025 or sooner. It has been well fed, enough molasses, well trained and controlled the best barn. I am not a betting man, since hope is a lost cause. Put your best horse in the race, not the one you like emotionally but the one that can win.
