– Guyana off to solid start in team event
The combination of Avery Arjoon and Nicholas Verwey propelled Guyana to mixed doubles glory when the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Junior Championships continued in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. The duo of Arjoon and Verwey, who also captured gold in the girl’s U-15 singles and boy’s U-19 singles, respectively, bested the Barbadian pair of Sarrayah Yearwood and Dominic Wilson in straight sets 11-9, 11-6.
Meanwhile, Guyana got their team campaign off to a solid start yesterday in the team tournament, following a record of three wins and a draw in the boy’s and girl’s sections, respectively.
In the boy’s pool, Guyana thrashed Jamaica 5-1. Michael Alphonso brushed aside Brady Holmes 11-5, 11-5, and 11-8 in the U-19 matchup, while Mohryan Baksh made light work of Max Henzell 11-1, 11-2, and 11-1 in the second match in the section.
