CWI Rising Stars U-19 Women’s T20

Guyana got their Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars U-19 Women’s T20 campaign off to the perfect start with a thrilling four-run win over hosts Trinidad and Tobago Red Force Divas yesterday.

Played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, the Guyanese girls were sent into bat after losing the toss.

The Guyanese top order found the going tough and laboured to 47/3 in the 13th over. However, skipper Realanna Grimmond and Niya Latchman then combined to form a partnership of 41 to usher their side to a total of somewhat respectability.

Grimmond grounded out a 37-ball 27 in a responsible knock that included two fours and a solitary six. Latchman, on the other hand, scored a brisker 25 from 27 balls.

With Guyana’s allotted overs expired, their total stood at 94/5. Bowling for the Trinidadians, their captain, Samara Ramnath, led the line with 2-11 from her allotted four overs, while Jazz Mitchell snared 1-9 (4 overs).

In response, the Trinidadians found the going even tougher as Trisha Hardat’s seam bowling ripped through the host nation’s lineup. She accounted for four of the top five batters, as none of them managed to get beyond single-digit scores.

Only three batswomen, Deliannys Espinoza (15 from 45 balls), Jazz Mitchell (14 retired hurt), and Sameera Naidoo (12 not out), put up any sort of resistance. As a matter of fact, extras, 33 in total, accounted for a third of the Trinidadians total in the end, but they still fell four runs short of Guyana’s total in the end.

The TT Divas ended their innings on 90/6 with Hardat claiming 4-12 (4 overs), while Danellie Manns (1-13, 4 overs) and Latchman (1-11, 4 overs) took a wicket apiece. Guyana’s next assignment will be against Jamaica tomorrow at the same venue.
