China’s Ministry of Commerce is sponsoring a three-week oil development seminar here which began this morning.

In keeping with the Government of Guyana’s commitment and policy to continuously pursue human resources development, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) in a statement said that it is supervising the Overseas Seminar on Oil Development for Guyana at the GFC Complex in Kingston.

This seminar will run from  July 8-28 and is co-organised by the Development Research Center of China Geological Survey and CNOOC Guyana. The latter is one of the partners in the lucrative Stabroek Block.

A release from the Ministry of Natural Resource said that the training offers the opportunity for learning and knowledge exchange on crucial topics in the oil and gas sector.

“The Government of Guyana has emphasized the expeditious development of our gas resources, recognizing gas as a key energy source during the energy transition”, the release said.

It added: “This training will focus significantly on gas development, preparing our team for our upcoming Non-Associated Gas development. Additionally, the sessions will cover innovative technologies for offshore oil field productivity and deep water gas field development, including surf and topside facility operations, shallow-water oil extraction, marine carbon dioxide storage, and seismic surveys, all of which are critical areas for the team from the MNR and GGMC (Guyana Geology and Mines Commission).

Also sharing brief remarks was Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Guo Haiyan who stated that this seminar aims to communicate management experience and technology to its beneficiaries, helping to mitigate the negative impacts of fossil fuel development.

“Thank you to the Development Research Center of China Geological Survey for supporting our technical staff which will provide them with invaluable exposure, hence, equipping them to better manage the accelerated pace of development in Guyana”, the release added.
