Government can no longer ignore the persistent rise in inflation and impact on our most vulnerable

Dear Editor,

The persistent rise in inflation in Guyana has become a critical issue that demands immediate attention. The current economic situation is exacerbating the hardships faced by the poorest segments of our society, who are already struggling to make ends meet. As prices for essential goods and services continue to climb, the basic cost of living becomes increasingly untenable for many families. This inflationary pressure is eroding the purchasing power of the most vulnerable, pushing them further into poverty and despair.

I am calling on both the government and National Assembly to take further decisive and effective action to combat inflation. This includes implementing measures to stabilize prices for essential food products such as Rice, Sugar, Milk, flour etc., ensuring access to affordable necessities, and providing direct support to those most affected. It is imperative that additional policies are put in place to safeguard the economic well-being of all citizens, particularly those who are least able to weather the financial storm.

The government must prioritize the needs of the poor and work towards creating a more equitable and sustainable economic environment. This crisis cannot be ignored any longer, and immediate steps must be taken to protect our most vulnerable populations from further economic harm. I urge the government and the National Assembly to act swiftly and decisively to address this pressing issue and to provide relief to those who need it most.

Sincerely,
