National School Basketball Festival

Kwakwani and Queen’s College (QC) were crowned Girl’s and Boy’s U-14 divisional champions, respectively, when the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG)-coordinated National School Basketball Festival concluded last night at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.

Kwakwani defeated President’s College ‘A’ 24-22. Sherese Leacock, who was eventually adjudicated as the division’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), was the primary scorer for the winner with eight points. Malia Samuels supported with five points.

For the East Coast Demerara unit, Akeelah Campbell and Junelly Paddy recorded 10 and nine points, respectively.

Meanwhile, Queen’s College squeaked past Berbice High 55-53. Darren Dublin led the victor with 22 points, while Jared Boucher added 10 points and five rebounds, Anfernee Cummings netted 10 points, and Jonathan Gomea scored nine points.

On the other side, eventual MVP awardee Avion Kesney top scored with 29 points, with Ethan Azar the next best scorer with 10 points and seven rebounds.
