The suspect has been identified as a security guard of Lot 116 Mibicuri South, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice.

Baksh’s mother, Devika Manick, 52, a market vendor of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, yesterday told Stabroek News that her son left home on Sunday morning to head to New Amsterdam to sell bird seeds.

She said he then returned around 7 pm at which point he had a few drinks which he would normally do. He then collected a seine and headed out to the road where the night club is located.

According to the woman, later that evening she was informed that her son’s lifeless body was outside of the nightclub. “One girl call me and say Kaioum lay down on the road and like he dead.”

Rushing to the scene, she learnt from a neighbour who was present during the incident, that Baksh was intoxicated and behaving in a loud manner. “The girl (neighbour) say he been a talk to them and make monkey antics hard. Them does always lime together and drink and then the security guard come out and start beat him.”

A female eyewitness who asked to remain anonymous yesterday said that the security guard first started beating Baksh with his hands after which he brought out an iron rod which he used to deal Baksh the fatal blow to his head.

As of yesterday afternoon, the police were continuing their investigation. Baksh’s mother said that although he often imbibed he was a jovial person who assisted her in any way he could.
