Cumberland man left homeless after suspected arson

A fire suspected to be arson completely destroyed a two-storey concrete and wooden house during the wee hours of yesterday at Cumberland Village, East Canje Berbice leaving a man homeless.

Jamaludeen Mohamed, also known as “Mickey”, 48, had occupied the fully furnished two storey premises for over five years now. According to him, the building belonged to his overseas-based cousin who had also sent two tractors to Guyana which were stored under the house. Both were completely destroyed by the fire.

The man yesterday told Stabroek News that he was at work when he received a call around 2.30 am on Monday from a neighbour informing him that his entire building was on fire.
