-Hutson further suspended, unable to produce financial records
Embattled former President of the Athletics Association of Guyana, Aubrey Hutson has been further suspended by the Executive Council of the body following a statutory meeting on Saturday at the National Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue.
Attempts made by this newspaper to contact Hutson remained unsuccessful up to press time yesterday.
A little over a year after his initial suspension due to a lack of confidence and failure to be transparent in terms of financial housekeeping, Hutson is yet to produce those documents relevant to records of the AAG’s finances.
The reason for the Executive demanding those documents from Hutson stems from a desire to have an independent probe into allegations of misconduct. According to a source within the AAG’s executive council who spoke under cover of anonymity, the council “voted unanimously to schedule its annual general meeting in three months and further suspend Mr Aubrey Hutson as President in light of his failure to provide documents required for the council inquiry”.
“It is hoped that the membership of the association will utilize the opportunity to make necessary changes to the constitution to ensure transparency, accountability and further growth of the AAG”, the source stated.
Some of the charges leveled against Hutson since 2022 by the General Secretary and Treasurer, ranged from micromanaging the AAG, the borrowing of funds from his personal business to pay forward or underwrite expenses of the AAG and then repaying himself without the knowledge and/or approval of the Executive Council.
Additionally, the duo also accused Hutson of failing to inform members of the council about the association’s account balance, non-accountability of financial transactions undertaken and bias in the selection of athletes and coaches to represent Guyana on the international stage.
The AAG is currently headed by Vice President Amanda Hermonstine who is acting in the capacity of President.
Embattled AAG President Aubrey Hutson remains suspended from the position with the body looking to conduct their Elections three months from July 6.
