Twenty-nine-year-old Delon Jones of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown, appeared yesterday before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with attempting to commit a felony.
It was alleged that on July 6, at Orange Walk, Bourda, Georgetown, he attempted to rob a police officer, Lennox Daniels.
Jones pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor objected to bail being granted citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. He stated that they were in possession of CCTV footage of the incident, and while under caution Jones admitted guilt to investigators by allegedly uttering the words “I sorry, I did not know he was a police.”
Jones however, refuted the claims made by the prosecutor, stating “I would be happy for the CCTV to be shown in court.” The magistrate asked Jones about his past history before the courts to which he responded that he was before the court on two previous occasions for ammunition possession and malicious wounding charges.
After careful consideration, the magistrate refused bail and remanded Jones to prison pending disclosure of the CCTV footage on July 16.
