A suspect was arrested on Monday evening and is assisting with investigations into the murder of Evelyn Alfonzo Alves who was found dead with a bullet in her head.
The body of Alves also known as Fabianna Bentancourt, a 23-year-old unemployed mother of three of East Street, Georgetown, was found on Sunday at Diamond, East Bank Demerara. The arrest of the suspect was confirmed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum yesterday
Alves, who is a Venezuelan of Guyanese parentage, was last seen on Saturday evening by her mother, Juliet Alves, and it was hours later that the horrific discovery of her body bearing the gunshot wound was made.
According to police, the woman’s body was found by workers from a construction company who were on their way to refuel the company’s excavator. The discovery was made on the roadway in the New Diamond Development Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
At the time of her death, Alves resided with her mother and her three children, two boys and a girl.
Speaking to Stabroek News, Juliet Alves related that the last time she saw her daughter was on Saturday night when she left their East Street home in a white taxi that she normally travels in. The woman told her mother she was on her way to pick up some money at a hotel.
