Suspect in custody in robbery of Toucan manager

Following the multi-million-dollar robbery of the manager of Toucan Distributors Limited, in the compound of GBTI, one suspect is in police custody assisting detectives with the ongoing investigation and sum of the money has been recovered.

Head of the GPF’s Corporate Communications Unit, Mark Ramotar, stated yesterday that investigators also recovered a portion of the stolen money. Police are still to arrest several other persons in connection with the robbery.

Last Wednesday night, a 65-year-old manager of Toucan Distributors Limited was robbed of $10 million by two men dressed in police uniforms and armed with pistols. The incident occurred at about 21.50 hours on July 3, at the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) compound on Young Street, in Kingston, Georgetown.

According to police, the suspects are said to be two identifiable males fully dressed in police blue and black uniforms, both armed with pistols.
