The file concerning Jonathan Gomes, a 27-year-old of Canary Street, Tucville, Georgetown, who died in a collision on the Columbia Public Road, in Mahaicony, will be forwarded this week to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
Investigations into the matter have been completed, Regional commander, Assistant Commissioner Kurleigh Simon stated yesterday.
The accident occurred at about 20.25 hours on May 23 on the Columbia Public Road, Mahaicony. It involved motor lorry, GSS 6980, driven by Odit Ramdeen of Airy Hall, Mahaicony, and motor car, PVV 3618, driven by Gomes.
Initial investigations revealed that the lorry was proceeding east along the public road when the car, PVV 3618, which was proceeding west, overtook several vehicles at a bend in the road at a fast rate causing him to end up in the path of the lorry.
The driver of the motor lorry tried to avoid a collision by turning onto the parapet, but despite his efforts, the car collided with the front of the lorry, causing its driver to lose control and hit a utility pole.
As a result of the collision, the driver of the car was injured and was taken out of the vehicle in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and along with the driver of the lorry was placed into a police vehicle. They were taken to the Mahaicony Public Hospital where the driver of the car was pronounced dead on arrival. The lorry driver was treated and sent away.
