Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday about 19.45 hours at Charles Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, which left a 6-year-old hospitalised with a gunshot wound to the head.
Jeremiah Gustave, whose condition is listed as serious, resides with his mother, Keisha Gustave, a 39-year-old food vendor at 11 Charles Street, Charlestown who plies her trade in front of the house. She told the Stabroek News yesterday that she doesn’t know the shooter. All she can say is that she was sitting where she sells food and there was a shooting.
Investigations have so far revealed that on Tuesday night, Jeremiah was standing next to his mother on the eastern side of Charles Street when the suspect approached on a black motorcycle with a gun in his hand.
As he approached the woman’s food stall, he discharged four rounds in the direction of a man known as ‘Crab’, who was standing not far from the child and his mother. ‘Crab’ then began to run and managed to escape, however, the Jeremiah was shot, and he fell to the ground.
The boy was picked up by his mother and rushed to a city hospital, where he is currently undergoing medical treatment. His condition is listed as serious.
The police have thus far recovered two 9mm spent shells from the scene and are on the lookout for the suspect, as well as the man known as ‘Crab’.
“I thought the thing was squibs, not knowing it was a shooting out. When I turned, I saw that my son was already in a pool of blood. Then I rushed him to the hospital”, the mother said.
