Three men were yesterday remanded to prison after a
ganja bust at Stanleytown, New Amsterdam on Sunday.
The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) said that Staffon Caesar, age 25, a taxi driver of Gangaram Settlement, Canje Berbice; Mark Boyles, 24, a clothes vendor of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice and Shawn Hercules, 22, a farmer of Kimbia, Berbice River appeared before Magistrate Marissa Mittelholzer at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court in relation to the charge of possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking to wit 5.790 kg of cannabis. They all pleaded not guilty to the charge and were remanded to prison.
On Sunday the CANU officers conducted an operation in the Stanleytown, New Amsterdam area, where they intercepted a motor car. A subsequent search of the motor vehicle revealed two large bulky brick-like parcels with a quantity of leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis.
