Jason Isaacs, who was wanted in connection with the murder of an overseas-based Guyanese businessman back in 2021 at Reliance, East Canje Berbice and was arrested earlier this month was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with several counts of armed robbery.
Isaacs, 35, of Lot 18 Bristol Street, East Canje was charged with Robbery Under Arms committed on Rohanie Haimchandrji, 26, a hairdresser of Lot 56 New Street, Cumberland, East Canje which occurred on May, 28, at New Street, Cumberland.
He was also charged with Robbery Under Arms committed on Dhanrajie, 46, a ten- day worker of Lot 158 New Street, Cumberland which occurred on April 27 at New Street, Cumberland, Robbery Under Arms committed on Kamal Deen, 75, of Cumberland which occurred on April, 27, at Cumberland and Robbery Under Arms committed on Nandlall Autar, 66, of Lot 82 Bun Bush Dam, East Canje which occurred on April 27 at Cumberland.
He appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Michelle Matthias, where the indictable charges were read to him.
All of the matters were transferred to the Reliance Magistrate’s Court where Isaacs will appear next on August 7th.
Isaacs, for whom a wanted bulletin was issued over the 2021 murder of US-based Guyanese, Hemraj Pardesi in Berbice, was earlier this month arrested.
Police had said that Isaacs is also suspected in Suriname of killing a man on the corner of Waaldijk and Eugene Gesselstraat on the evening of Thursday, October 12, 2023. Isaacs was arrested in Suriname on October 13, 2023, but escaped from the Paramaribo University Hospital and had been on the run since until his arrest earlier this month.
Isaacs had been shot in the leg by police during an operation to arrest him in Suriname on October 13th and had escaped from the Paramaribo University Hospital.
According to a Suriname news website, waterkant.com, Isaacs managed to cut open the plaster cast on his leg and fled from the hospital.
Pardesi, also known as ‘Prem’, a 67-year-old man was found lying face down in his yard, at Reliance Settlement, East Canje, Berbice, with blood oozing from his nose during the wee hours of August 4th 2021.
Money he had withdrawn from a bank the day before was carted off by the killers.
In February this year, a Cumberland, East Canje fisherman who had pleaded guilty to the 2021 murder of Pardesi was sentenced to life in prison at the High Court in Berbice.
In January this year, Mario Bissoondial appeared at the High Court in Berbice before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow where he had entered his guilty plea.
Commander of Region Six, Shivpersaud Bacchus when asked yesterday said that the murder charge will be instituted against Isaac “sometime soon.”
