Ryan Fredericks, a 25-year-old father of three, remains hospitalized in a critical state following a bloody confrontation on Wednesday which left two brothers, Ellis Joseph and Marvin Joseph dead.

Speaking with Stabroek News yesterday, Annette Miguel, the aunt of Fredericks and another source recounted what occurred at Miguel’s home in St Lawrence, East Bank Essequibo.

Miguel stated that Fredericks went to her home around 2 pm on Wednesday after arriving from the Pomeroon where he lives. He was planning to spend the evening at her home and venture into the gold mines yesterday morning where he works. “He come out from Pomeroon yesterday and he dropped off his bag at my home and told me he is going by his mother house to collect a speaker and come back”. She stated that the Fredericks family has a history with the Joseph brothers but is unaware of what started the issues between them.

“Ryan used to live in Parika Facade where these guys used lived too and they had some issue in the past and Ryan went to the police and then he decided that he wanted to move out and he went to Pomeroon” a source told Stabroek News. The source said that the Fredericks family faced continuous threats by the Joseph brothers. “His mother also moved out too because they threatened her so they moved out in a hurry”, the source added.

Following his return from uplifting the speaker from his mother’s old home he arrived in a minibus and then unloaded the speaker the source told Stabroek News. That was where the Joseph brothers saw Fredricks as they were on their way in a canter. They then dismounted the canter and chased Fredricks. “They run behind he and he run in the yard and left everything”, the source said.

During the scuffle between the brothers and Fredericks the source confirmed that he suffered  chops to the head, arm and back.

“They chop him, and he was calling for someone to open the door. He kept saying `aunty them man chop me open the door’ but before Miguel had a chance to do so Fredericks crashed through her louvre windows to escape his attackers.

It is unclear what happened next.

The police report stated that at about 3 pm on Wednesday, Fredericks,  disembarked a minibus and headed towards his aunt’s house. As he was walking in the yard where his aunt  lives, he saw the two brothers passing on a motor canter.

They both disembarked the canter, armed with cutlasses and rushed towards Fredericks. The brothers started to chop Fredericks about his body. He then ran into the yard toward the house with the men pursuing him. However, he jumped through a glass louvres window in the lower flat of the house in a bid to escape. It was suspected that during the confrontation, the two brothers chopped each other along with Fredericks, who also collapsed in the house.

Marvin Joseph ran out of the yard and collapsed on the wooden bridge, where he became unconscious while his brother Ellis Joseph was seen bleeding. He was picked up by a passerby and rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he died while receiving medical attention.

Fredericks was also picked up by Police Ranks and rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital to seek medical attention with one incised chop wound to the right side of his back and other small cuts about his body. His condition is listed as serious.

The body of Marvin Joseph was examined, and one incised wound was seen on his abdomen. Two incised wounds were seen on the abdomen of Ellis Joseph.

Both bodies were taken to the Ezekiel Funeral home for storage, awaiting  Post-Mortem Examinations.
