Kyle Couchman prevailed in the Moo Milk-sponsored National Junior Chess Championship Qualifiers, which concluded at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
This was confirmed by a release from the Guyana Chess Federation. According to the correspondence, Couchman emerged victorious after ending the event, which featured approximately 70 participants and was contested utilising seven rounds with six points.
The release stated, “Second to seventh positions went to Sachin Pitamber, Ricardo Narine, Aditi Joshi, Matthew Singh, Kishan Puran, and Italy Ton-Chung, respectively, who all ended the tournament with 5.5 points each.
Alexander Zhang, Treskole Archibald, and Alek Ubaldo Singh took the final three remaining spots for the top ten with 5 points each. Notable performances came from Omar Shariff, Ciel Clement, Micaiah Enoe, Yan Wen Chen, Tremusa Marshall, Darrel Abrams, Rafael Park, and Saura Ruplall, who all gained 4.5 points.”
Joshi walked away with the best female prize, while Chen and Ubaldo-Singh copped the best U-10 and U-12 awards, respectively. Ruplall secured the best U-10 and U-12 prizes for females, while the best newcomer prize and the youngest player award were captured by Tivon Grant and seven-year-old Joshua Patterson, respectively.
The National Junior Championship is pencilled for from July 26th to July 31st at the David Rose Special School, Thomas Lands.
