Mocha Village Cup Football
Family, Stabroek Ballers, and Touches secured berths to the semifinal round when the 6th edition of the Mocha Village Cup ‘Soft Shoe’ Football Championship continued on Wednesday evening at the community centre ground.
Family crushed Cayenne Massive 4-1. Shamar Jones led the rout with a double, while Nicholas Adams and Matthew Robinson recorded one goal apiece. For the loser, Rundel Smith recorded a consolation goal.
Meanwhile, the Stabroek Ballers disarmed the Talibans by a 4-2 score. The experienced pair of Jamal Cozier and Mark Jhalu recorded respective doubles in the win. For the loser, Eusi Phillips found the back of the net twice.
On the other hand, Touches squeaked past Ballerz Empire on
penalty kicks after regulation, and extra time ended 2-2. Touches prevailed in the tense shootout via a 2-1 score-line. Prior to the aforesaid conclusion, Jaheim Lewis bagged a double for Touches, while Shamar Garnett amassed a brace for Ballerz Empire.
Family will oppose Red Force, while Touches will battle the Stabroek Ballers in the semifinal segment tomorrow at the same venue.
The winner of the event will pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will walk away with $200,000, $100,000, and $50,000 and the corresponding accolade.
