Guyana Defence Force (GDF) forward Kelsie Benjamin recorded a first half hat-trick on Thursday night at the National Training Centre (NTC), Providence, to set the foundation for his side’s 7-0 thrashing of Buxton United in the KFC Elite League.

GDF, leaders of the league, stamped their authority on the game early on, establishing possession.

It eventually paid off as Kelsie put his side ahead in the 28th minute before Obumchi Benjamin made it 2-0 just two minutes later.

Kelsie would strike twice more, in the 35th minute before completing his hat-trick on the stroke of halftime (45th minute) with a coolly taken penalty kick.

Much like the first half, GDF took their time on the ball and would notch up three more goals late into the game.

Lennox Young (76th minute), Delroy Fraser (86th minute) and Shemar Scott (87th minute) all cashed in to complete the drubbing.

In a touching show of respect for their late goalkeeper Enoch Carmichael who collapsed and died during a routine training session just over a week ago, the team posed with a jersey, with Carmichael’s name written on it after the game.
