The second day of the round robin phase in the Kevin Joseph/Team 13 U23 Inter-club tournament saw wins for the Victory Valley Royals and Block 22 Flames on Wednesday night at the Amelia’s Ward Hard Court.
Game one was a thrilling encounter between the Flames and Amelia’s Ward Jets which was decided by a point in favour of the Flames at 46-45, their second consecutive win of the tourney.
While scores were tied at 13-13 at the end of the first quarter, the Flames doubled the score to lead, 26-19, when the first half ended.
However, the Jets made a good run in the second half of the game, taking it down to the wire to lose by one point.
The Flames were led by Royden Fraser with 12 points. He received support from Kester Albert and Jonathan Clarke who had eight points apiece while Jumane Reynolds chipped in with seven.
Stephan George of the Jets had a game high 16 and he received support from Leon Benjamin with 11.
Game two was a contrasting affair which saw the Victory Valley Royals coasting to a 75-61, win over Retrieve Raiders as Emmanuel LaRose led their charge with 23 points while Kobe Tappin got 22 and Rakin McDonald netted 9 points.
For the losers, Shemar Savoury had 15 points with John Anthony scoring 10 and Neil Marks (Jr.) with 9 points .
Tonight will see two more matches being played at the tournament venue in Amelia’s Ward. Game one at 6.30pm is between home team Amelia’s Ward Jets and Central Mackenzie Kings while the second at 8.30pm will pit Block 22 Flames against Retrieve Raiders.
