As he presided over the Alliance For Change’s first National Executive Meeting under his leadership, attorney Nigel Hughes has announced the launch of a “listening and grounding tour” as elections are fast approaching.
In a statement today, the AFC said the meeting at the party’s headquarters saw a packed agenda.
Hughes, who has been at the centre of a controversy over the perceived conflict of interest from his legal services to ExxonMobil, welcomed the gathering and thanked his predecessor Khemraj Ramjattan and the past executive for their contributions and efforts in sustaining the Party over the past years.
He charged the new executive to embrace a spirit of camaraderie and said that there must be renewed vigour and enthusiasm as the Members of Parliament, and other national representatives, performed their functions in representing the people.
“He signaled that elections were fast approaching and indicated that he was embarking on a `listening and grounding’ tour to as many places and communities that would receive him and AFC teams and groups”, the release said.
Since his election on June 29, the release said that Hughes has done several of these exercises and more are planned in the coming days and weeks.
