Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum yesterday said a main suspect has been identified in the  murder of Venezuelan, Evelyn Alfonzo Alves and a completed file on the investigation is expected to be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

The body of Alves, also known as Fabianna Bentancourt, a 23-year-old unemployed mother of three of East Street, Georgetown, was found with a bullet to the head on July 7 the road at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

Alves’s aunt, Patricia Alphonso told Stabroek News yesterday that based on the surveillance camera she saw at the hotel, Alves and her friend came out of the hotel on the night and a taxi driver who drove a black car picked her niece up. She confirmed that the same taxi driver, who is the prime suspect, was arrested for questioning by the police and is presently in custody.   The aunt is currently requesting any financial help she can get to help with the family with funeral arrangements for Alves.
