Police say conducting ‘thorough’ search for men missing after Mazaruni River collision

The police yesterday said that a dedicated team of ranks led by Inspector Crawford, in collaboration with an official of the Maritime Administration Department,  departed the Bartica Police Station and are conducting thorough checks in the ongoing search for the two men who went missing following a boat mishap in the Mazaruni River on July 5th.

A statement from the police also said that ranks along with the Maritime Officers for Regional Police Division #7, conducted prior searches in the Mazaruni and Essequibo rivers for the missing men.

On Saturday the relatives of the missing persons, Cranston Davidson, 43, of Agatash Village, Bartica and Troy Joseph, 35, of Agatash Village, Bartica, went public stressing the need for  assistance from both the police and the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) as the search for their loved ones continues.

The police in search for the two men

One person, Oswald Hudson Jr, also known as ‘Sadie’, 29, a driver of Lot 1 First Avenue, Bartica, was confirmed dead in that mishap.

Vivian Licorish of Agatash Village, Bartica, had told this newspaper that his foster son, Cranston Davidson and his son-in-law, Troy Joseph, who are crusher operators at EKAA HRIM Earth Resources Management Quarry located at Batavia Island, Region Seven, left their respective homes on July 4 to collect their salary at EKAA and while they were returning to Bartica on July 5th the collision occurred.

Licorish yesterday afternoon confirmed with this newspaper that the officials had joined the search with his family members and the boat captain yesterday morning for the two men.

A MARAD release had stated that it is currently investigating the matter with the support of the police and both agencies were trying to locate the two missing persons.

However, Licorish had maintained that since the incident, no official had reached out to the family to say anything about what happened nor did they part take in the search for his family. Since July 6, he said, he and his relatives have been using three boats in the search for the two men.
