Residents of Arakaka, Wallaba, and Santa Cruz in Moruca, Region One (Barima-Waini), can now benefit from telemedicine services, a release from the Ministry of Health said yesterday.
Telemedicine involves interactive communication between patients, community health workers, and specialist doctors from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and regional institutions.
With the use of audio and video equipment called the GALE, doctors can now perform remote diagnoses and treatment for patients in these remote communities.
Since 2022, the release said that the Government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Health, has been upgrading remote areas with telemedicine access to provide advanced and high-quality care for residents.
Last year, 25 telemedicine sites were established in Regions 1, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
