League leader and defending champion, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), and second-place outfit, Slingerz FC, recorded contrasting wins to solidify their status atop the standings when the KFC Elite League resumed on Monday evening.
Staged at the National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara, the army unit outmanoeuvred the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to prevail 2-0. Obumchi Benjamin recorded the only conversion of the first half in the 20th minute, while Delroy Fraser found the back of the net in the 84th minute to secure the win.
With the result, GDF maintained their grip at the summit of the table on 40 points, while GPF remain in third place on 28 points.
On the other hand, West Demerara powerhouse Slingerz thrashed cellar occupant Buxton United 11-0. Jamaican forward Kemar Beckford led the carnage as he tallied six conversions in the 33rd, 37th, 43rd, 64th, 76th, and 90th minutes.
He was supported by Marcus Tudor, who recorded a hat-trick in the sixth, 45th+2, and 65th minutes, while the combination of Curtez Kellman and Deon Alfred etched their names on the scorerโs sheet in the 55th and 85th minutes, respectively.
Due to the outcome, Slingerz FC climbed to 35 points and remain in second place. On the other side, Buxton United remain in the cellar position on a point.
