Red Bull Timehri and Silver Hill were crowned male and female champions, respectively, when the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Timehri, Soesdyke, Highway Cluster 5-over cricket competition culminated on Sunday. Staged at the Latchman Sand Road ground, Soesdyke, Red Bull Timehri defeated Laluni by 24 runs in the final of the male tapeball competition. Redbull Timehri batted first after the game was reduced to two overs due to rain and made 32 without loss. Ronaldo Blair top scored with 17 runs, while Andre Barrow supported with 14. In reply, Laluni stuttered to 8-3. Clairance Paddy snared 2-4 while Ronaldo Blair recorded 1-4. Meanwhile, Silver Hill beat Yarrowkabra by 10 wickets in the female softball final. Yarrowkabra took the first strike and managed 8-2 in 2 overs. Silver Hill then stormed to victory as they recorded 9-0 in the first over. Erika Ashby scored eight runs.
In the earlier men’s semifinal section, Red Bull Timehri bested St. Cuthbert’s Mission by nine runs. Batting first, Redbull Timehri posted 41-0 in their allotted two overs, with Blair smashing 32 runs. In reply, St. Cuthbert’s Mission ended 32-1 in their allotment. David Francis top scored with 26.
In the second semifinal of the division, Laluni thumped Susannah’s Rust by 10 wickets. Susannah’s Rust took the first strike and made 9-1 in 2 overs, only for Laluni to overhaul the target as they ended on 14-0 in 1.2 overs.
In the women’s semifinal fixtures, Silver Hill thrashed Kuru Kuru College by 10 wickets. Batting first, Kuru Kuru ended on 9-2. The aforesaid score proved insufficient as Silver Hill ended on 10-0 in 1.3 overs.
In the other semifinal encounter, Yarrowkabra brushed aside the Kuru Kururu Panthers by 12 runs. Yarrowkabra batted first and amassed 32-1 in two overs. In response, the Kuru Kururu Panthers ended on 20-0.
At the presentation ceremony, Red Bull Timehri pocketed the championship trophy, $200,000, and medals, while Laluni received $100,000 and the corresponding trophy and medals.
On the individual side, Ronaldo Blair was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Highest Run-Scorer with 83, with Nicholas Bazilio copping the Highest Wicket-Taker award.
Similarly, Silver Hill walked away with the championship trophy, medals, and $200,000 for winning the women’s title, while Yarrowkabra copped $100,000 and the corresponding trophy and medals for finishing in second place. In terms of the individual awards,
Melissa Daniels received the MVP and Highest Wicket-Taker awards, while Sherica Campbell copped the Highest Run-Scorer accolade.
