Forty-six-year-old auto body technician, Clifford Ranganan, of LBI Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday where he was charged with fraud.
It was alleged that on May 14, at New Market and East streets, he was entrusted by Godfrey Jones with the sum of $190,000 to purchase lights and parts for a motorcar. Ranganan then used the money for his personal gain.
Ranganan pled not guilty.
In an application for bail, his lawyer, Dominic Bess told the magistrate that his client had no antecedents and is not a flight risk. When asked by the magistrate if there were any objections to bail being granted, the prosecutor responded in the negative and requested two weeks to finalise some information on file.
Bail was granted in the sum of $75,000 and the matter was adjourned to July 31 for statements.
