Point Fortuin of Trinidad and Tobago got their campaign off to the perfect start in the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Boy’s U-16 Youth Academy Cup, defeating countrymen Tinto’s Academy 1-0 at the National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Scoreless at the end of the first half, Point Fortuin secured the victory as Michael Joseph found the back of the net in the 65th minute. With the win, Point Fortuin climbs atop the standings on three points, while Tinto’s Academy is yet to get off the mark and sits in the cellar position. The other two participants, the Guyana Jaguars and Guyana Panthers, sit in second and third positions, respectively, on one point apiece.
The event resumes today at the same venue after yesterday’s matches were rescheduled due to a waterlogged playing surface. At 10:00hrs, Point Fortuin will oppose the Guyana Panthers, while the second contest will pit Tinto Academy against the Guyana Jaguars.
A total of eight games are pencilled for the tournament, which last for the duration of six days and will be contested in a group stage format. At the conclusion of the group segment, the top two finishers will advance to the final.
