Man dies in Lusignan prison

Convicted prisoner, Lindon Lamaizon from the Lusignan prison was pronounced dead at about 6 am on Wednesday July 17, 2024, in unit # 3.

The Guyana Prison Service (GPS) said that duty officers were at the time making a routine check when they observed that Lamaizon was unresponsive to the roll call.

The nurse on duty immediately examined him for a pulse but was unable to obtain a reading.

The GPS said that contact was immediately made with a doctor who visited the prison, examined the prisoner and pronounced him dead.

Lamaizon, according to the GPS,  was recently discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after being diagnosed with kidney failure. At the time of his death, he was on treatment, the GPS said.

Lamaizon had been convicted of causing the death in 2021 of Mark Ault by dangerous driving. The accident occurred on the Dora Public Road.
