CWI Rising Stars U-19 Men’s 2-Day
Guyana suffered a crushing nine-wicket loss to fierce rival Barbados yesterday when the Cricket West Indies (CWI) U-19 2-Day Championship continued at the Arnos Vale Ground in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
In pursuit of Barbados’s first innings total of 201/9 declared, Guyana, who ended day one on 62/5, was bowled out for a paltry 97, in the process conceding a deficit of 104 as they were made to follow-on. Shahad Viera top scored with 36 runs, while Thaddeus Lovell supported with 25. Kyron King was the pick of the bowlers for the Barbadians with 5-40, while Raneico Smith snared 3-16. Guyana was then dismissed for 184 in their second innings, setting Barbados a meagre target of 81 runs for victory. Jonathan Van Lange led the Guyanese batting effort in the second innings with 48 runs, while Lovell once again contributed with the bat as he scored 35.
In reply, the Barbadians ended on 81/1, with Zion Brathwaite and Joshua Dorne nullifying the Guyanese threat with unbeaten scores of 34 and 24, respectively.
Over at Sion Hill Facility, the Leeward Islands and Jamaica played to stalemate.
Leeward Islands, who batted first, was dismissed for 80. Jamaica, in response, failed to capitalise on their opponent’s paltry score, as they declared at 90/9.
Leeward Islands, in their second innings, ended on 156/8. Meanwhile, the fixture between the Windward Islands and Trinidad at the Park Hill Ground ended with no result.
