Gold for Guyanese Beaton, Balram, & Khan

4th Diagaku World Cup

– Prashad, Pooran also cop top spots’

Guyanese Keenan Beaton, Maya Balram, Ethan Khan, Karesa Prashad, and Preme Pooran turned in sterling performances to grab gold in their respective categories when the 4th Diagaku (IKD) World Cup commenced yesterday at the National Gymnasium.

Beaton won gold in the men’s 20-39 individual Kata after amassing 19.1 points, while Balram took the top podium spot in the girl’s 5-7 individual Kata with 18.7 points, winning ahead of Samara Hunter, also of Guyana, who chalked 18.1 points.

Khan grabbed gold in the boy’s 5-7 Kata (brown) with 22.2 points ahead of fellow Guyanese Aiden Ally, who managed 21.7.

The Girl’s 5-7 Kata (brown) was an all-Guyana show, with Karesa Prashad winning the top prize after gaining 21.8 points and Amia Dyal taking the second position on 21.7.

Preme Pooran of Guyana’s YMCA Dojo won gold in the boy’s 14-16 Kata (brown); Nathan Greaves of Barbados and Noah Hamilton of Jamaica placed second and third, respectively. Julia Badal of YMCA copped silver in the Girl’s 14-16 Kata (brown); Divya Mano of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) took the gold, and Guyanese Suemin Richards won silver.

Kaleah Austin of T&T won the Girl’s 17-19 Kumite (green-blue-purple), while Guyana’s Keyshia Beaton took the runner-up spot, and Alisha Moodeen of Guyana placed third.

Kira David of Antigua won the girl’s 40-49 Kata while Romana Ramjit of Guyana took the runner-up spot.

Katreina Harroo of T&T took gold in the Girl’s 11-13 Kata; Monique Clarke of Barbados placed second, and Jurisa Sampson of Barbados was third.

Alejandro DeNobrega of T&T won the boy’s 11-13 Kata (brown) on 22.5 points; Carl Williams of T&T with 22.2 placed second; and Rory Bradford of T&T placed third with 22.1.

Naomi Taylor of T&T won the Girl’s 14-16 Kata (green-blue-purple); Laila La Foucade of T&T placed second, and Guyana’s Rachael Seymour took third. Adon Dick of T&T grabbed gold in the boy’s 8-10 Kata (brown) with 22.8 points; Josiah Clinkekin of Guyana took silver on 22.4; and Wyatt Fraser of Guyana won the bronze after picking up 21.9.

Faith Fortune of T&T won the Girl’s 8-10 Kumite (brown); Williams of T&T took gold in the Boy’s 11-13 Kata (brown), and Jaya Ningwani of T&T captured gold in the Girl’s 11-13 Kumite (green-purple-blue).

The girl’s 8-10 Kumite (brown-blue-purple) gold was taken by Janique Alexander of T&T, while Declan Harricharan of T&T took the top podium spot in the boy’s 5-7 (green-blue-purple) Kata.

Aidan Rahaman of T&T won the boy’s 8-10 Kata (blue-purple-brown), and Nathan Pana of T&T won the male 11-13 Kata. Another Guyanese, Amia Dyal, placed second in the girl’s 5-7 Kata and Kumite.
