Guyana Jaguars defeated Tinto’s Academy of Trinidad and Tobago 4-2 when the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Boy’s U-16 Youth Academy Cup continued yesterday at the National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara.
The contest was effectively settled at the end of the first half, as the Guyanese stormed to a commanding 4-1 advantage. The trio of Quancy Fraser, Shaquan David, and Jaden Harris found the back of the net in the 11th, 15th, and 24th minutes, respectively, while an own goal completed the score-line at the end of the period. For the loser, Tyrel Stapleton recorded a brace following conversions on either side of the halftime interval.
With the win, the Guyana Jaguars move onto four points and climb atop the standings due to their superior goal differential. On the other hand, the loser remained pointless in the cellar position.
Meanwhile, Point Fortuin and the Guyana Panthers played to a scoreless affair. Due to the outcome, Point Fortuin move onto four points and drop to second place owing to their inferior goal differential, while the Guyana Panthers climb onto two points in third place.
The event resumes today at the same venue. At 16:00hrs, the Guyana Panthers will oppose Tinto’s Academy, while the second contest will pit Point Fortuin against the Guyana Jaguars.
A total of eight games are pencilled for the tournament, which last for the duration of six days and will be contested in a group stage format. At the conclusion of the group segment, the top two finishers will advance to the final.
