The semifinal section in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West/East Bank Demerara edition will kick off this evening at the Pouderoyen Tarmac.
Travis ‘Zoti’ Bess, coordinator of the event, said, “The tournament has produced quality encounters with some unexpected results occurring, which highlights the ever-improving quality of the competing teams. We have two of the usual suspects in Showstoppers and Ballerz Empire in the semifinals and two teams who are relatively new to this stage, which boasts well for the growth of the tournament.”
“I expect another competitive and exciting night. The fans have been very receptive and supportive of the event, which is evident by the large and increasing turnouts since the event commenced two weeks prior. All systems are in place for an exciting conclusion as the teams vie for the opportunity to represent the zone at the national championship that is scheduled for September. Once again, I would like to thank the fans for coming out and supporting their respective teams, and we hope that continues throughout the event and until the conclusion of the event’s season.”
The defending champion, Ballerz Empire, will match skills with dark-horse Cayenne Massive in the first semifinal fixture at 20:00hrs. Ballerz Empire sealed their place in the final four section following wins over Sunshine Ballers [2-1] in the round of 16 section and Epic Touch Family [2-0] in the quarterfinal realm.
Their opponent, Cayenne Massive, has been in a rampaging mood, evident by their respective 5-0 wins over ESPN [round of 16] and Family [quarterfinal].
Meanwhile, the second semifinal at 21:00hrs will pit three-time champion Showstoppers against the formidable Jetty Gunners unit.
Showstoppers stormed into the semifinal section after overcoming the Westside Ballers 2-0. In their first match in the event, the home side thrashed Goal Getters 3-0.
On the other hand, Jetty Gunners made light work of Pouderoyen Brothers and NO Mercy via respective 2-0 scores.
The abovementioned victors will advance to the final, with the losers competing in the third place playoff on July 26th at the same venue. The overall winner of the competition will secure an automatic berth to the national championship, which is pencilled for September.
