Man gets fine, community service for cannabis

Simon Hodge

Simon Hodge appeared before acting Chief Magistrate, Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with possession of narcotics.

It was alleged that on July 18, at Sheriff Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession 29 grammes of cannabis.

Hodge pled guilty with explanation.

When asked by the Magistrate to explain himself, he stated that he has been a user of narcotics for many years, and that he heard on the news that Parliament said he could be in possession of an ounce of the narcotic.

Given his honesty the Magistrate fined him $20,000 and seven days’ community service to clean the vicinity of the courts and the lock ups.
