-one appears in court
Akeem Fraser appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he charged with murder with the murder of a transgender woman.
It was alleged that on July 11, at South Road and King Street, he along with Shaggy Mohamed murdered Shaun Anthony Simon. He was not required to plead to the indictable offence.
Bail was refused and he was remanded to prison until July 22 for the charge to be reread to both him and Mohamed.
On July 13, several persons were held for questioning in relation to the shooting death of Simon, a 28-year-old trans woman at King Street and South Road, Georgetown.
Enquiries revealed that on Thursday morning, the victim (who is said to be a sex worker), along with a 26-year-old trans woman of West La Penitence Housing Scheme, Georgetown, were standing at the corner of King Street and South Road when a heavily-tinted silver-coloured Toyota Premio motorcar entered King Street from Croal
Street, and several loud explosions suspected to be gunshots were heard coming from the direction of the car. Upon hearing gunfire, Simon, along with her friend, ran east on South Road and collapsed to the ground. The car, meanwhile, continued north on King Street and disappeared.
Twenty-five-year-old Mohamed is expected to appear in court on Monday to be charged with the same offence. The court was unable to facilitate his appearance via Zoom due to issues with the internet connection at the Lusignan Prison.
