ExxonMobil Guyana Youth Relay Festival runs off tomorrow

The ExxonMobil sponsored Guyana Youth Relay Festival will run off tomorrow with the organizing body, A Record Chance Inc (ARC), promising a “thrilling athletic competition focused on relay races, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship amongst young athletes”. 

The event which will be held at the National Track & Field Stadium, Edinburgh, West Coast Demerara, is expected to begin at 10 am.

According to ARC, founded by national athlete Arinze Chance, the festival “underscores the company’s commitment to youth development and community engagement in Guyana”.

Staying true to its premise of promoting youth development, the festival will see athletes competing in the U16, U20, and Open age categories respectively. 

In a statement to the media, ARC stated; “The event will feature finals to ensure a day of exhilarating competition for both participants and spectators. Special attractions for the festival will include spectator giveaways and so much more”.

Each of the age categories U16 and U20 will be eligible to compete in the following

relay events: 4x100m Relay, 4x200m Relay and 4x400m Relay. 

Additionally, the Sprint Medley Relay (200m, 200m, 400m, 800m legs) and Mixed 4x400m Relay (Teams of four runners, two males and two females) are expected to have fans on their feet. 

On the other hand, the Open athletes will compete in the 100m, 800m, 4x100m Relay and Mixed 4x400m Relay.

The festival will feature teams from Berbice, Demerara, and Essequibo with prizes to  be awarded to the top performers.
