Police are currently investigating the suspected murder of a 75-year-old pensioner, Michael Soomair called ‘Mikey’ of Lot 366 Hope Estate, East Coast Demerara, who was discovered dead in the hallway of the lower flat of his Hope Estate home.
Reports are that the incident occurred between 22.45 hours on Thursday and 07.45 hours on Friday.
Investigations revealed that Soomair lived in the lower flat of a two-storey house. He was discovered in the hallway face down with a chair on his back. A sheet was around his head which was resting on a pillow, and both hands were tied with rope behind his back.
The body was examined and injuries were observed on the forehead, right ankle, and left elbow.
The entire house was ransacked, and a 32-inch television set that was not in working order was reportedly stolen. An ambulance was summoned and emergency medical technicians headed by Dr Uthman from Clonbrook Health Centre, attended and pronounced Soomair dead.
The body was removed and taken to the Memorial Funeral Home where it awaits a post mortem examination.
