Lula says China wants to discuss Belt and Road Initiative with Brazil

SAO JOSE DOS CAMPOS, Brazil,  (Reuters) – Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Friday that China is looking to discuss its Belt and Road Initiative with Brazil, adding that his country will study what would be in for Brazil if it joins the initiative.

Lula told an event in Sao Paulo state he will attend an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Peru later this year to speak to China about the matter, even though Brazil is not officially part of APEC.

“China wants to discuss the New Silk Road, so we will have to prepare a proposal to discuss it,” Lula told an event. “What’s in it for us? What does Brazil gain if we take part in it?”
