‘Rambo’ was a true character in all senses of the word

Dear Editor,

I was sad (but glad for him) to read of the death of my erstwhile good friend Ramon Gaskin. ‘Rambo’ was a true character in all senses of the word. Larger and louder than life. Two favourite memories – lunch in the then Water Chris when I dared to suggest Guyana was better under the British. Light the red touch paper! He hit the table, shouted at me, jumped up and down and stormed out of the restaurant. We made up.

Secondly, visiting his then abode in Eccles. A vast library which when I opened the books they seem to have been pre-used by a University library in Toronto.

They don’t make em  like ‘Rambo’ anymore.

Yours,

John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
